Dengue Fever Update

Trend

A total of 687 suspect Dengue cases were admitted to different disease reporting units region wide from January 1 – July 28, 2012. This is 9% higher compared to last year cases (631). No clustering of cases detected.

Profile of Cases

Ages of cases ranged from 2 months old to 86 years old. Majority of cases were males (55%). Forty-three percent of the cases belonged to 0 to 10 years age group (Fig. 2). A total of thirteen (13) Dengue deaths were reported from the different Disease Reporting Units region wide from January 1 to July 28, 2012. Deaths came from Barangay Punta Bilar and Barangay Washington of Surigao City (2), Barangay Libertad and Barangay Imadejas, Butuan City (2), Barangay Jubang, Tago, Surigao Del Sur (1), Barangay Manyayay, Lianga, Surigao Del Sur (1), Barangay 12, Dapa, Surigao Del Norte (1), Barangay Binuangan, Tubay, Agusan Del Norte (1), Poblacion 12, Cabadbaran City (1), and Barangay Poblacion, Esperanza, Agusan Del Sur (4). The case fatality rate is 1.9% for the whole region.
